These are the ones that I have tried (including those that are “famous” but I think are just average). As many of the eateries are simple street stalls or obscure coffeeshops, I found GPS coordinates to be very useful in locating them.
I visit Malacca a few times a year, just to eat and relax. It’s only a 200-ish km drive from Singapore, ideal for weekend foodie getaways. I would recommend Malacca for couples and small groups (5 or less) as many of the well-known eateries are small and do not take reservations.
These are some of the places that I have stayed at or have wanted to try due to their central location near Jonker Street (i.e. Jalan Heng Jebat, which is the center of historic Malacca).
Peranakan charm in spades- Four poster bed, claw foot tub, original mosaic flooring in the lobby, welcome tea ceremony. 20min walk from Jonker Street (not fun at all in the hot sun and without proper sidewalks).
The most expensive hotel in central Melaka- unparalleled location (by the river, next to Jonker), spacious rooms, smoker friendly private balconies, rooftop pool, underground parking.
