The japow gods have once again returned to Niseko in full force this season. Since I was busy adulting, I only managed a week there in Feb 2018, but luckily there was still plenty of pow to be had. Loving it even more this season with the car which allowed us to avoid the great unwashed.
As the 2016/2017 season draws to a close I think we can safely conclude that it was one of the worst seasons ever for Niseko with less than 8m of cumulative snowfall. Was lucky enough to squeeze out 3 pow days out of my week there in Feb 2017.
Pretty scary going on my first solo trip but in the end I made some great new ski buddies- Forever alone no more!
Chitose is one of the best airports to “lepak” (loiter) at while waiting for the ski bus- One stop shop for all Hokkaido goodies!
I normally avoid all-inclusive resorts but since I was going solo I decided to join a group trip organized by YMCA Outdoors Singapore. Thankfully I met some other fun-loving solo travellers on the trip and overall we had a great four days with some 30cm of new snow. Loved the resort (ski area), hated the hotel.
Snowboarding knee-deeps with a cracked rib and a bit of lost-and-found drama marks the grand finale of a fab week.
First time ever on skis and this definitely went wayyyyy better than my first time on a snowboard. Geez, I could have saved myself all that angst over the years.
